I'd like to continue with having the students make or contribute items to the silent auction as a class. I'm toying with a few ideas, but would definitely like to hear if any parents might have some suggestions. Right now I'm thinking about possibly doing some mosaic projects or doing something similar to what we did last year with the thumbprint pottery. Please send me ideas if you have them.

The students in Gr. 2-8 received many, many compliments on their singing/chime playing this past Sunday. We were all proud of what we accomplished in such a short amount of time. The students definitely showed glory and honor to God with the gifts he has given them. I really enjoy working with such an enthusiastic group of singers. With so much positive energy, I'm sure we'll continue to enjoy music class.
If your child has lost their reading log, let me know. It's helpful to know how often and how long they are reading at home. If we see difficulties at school, it helps us know how to address the situation. It's also a great way for your child to make reading and tracking their progress a daily habit. Let me know if you need any assistance with the reading log, Accelerated Reader questions, or any other concerns.
Memory work assignments will still be posted at this site. The only difference with last week is that they are not completely typed out here. You will find what has been assigned in their book. This book can stay at home. We don't need it at school since we have copies at school. Memory work is usually in this book unless we are learning songs or recitations for Christmas. Feel free to call or e-mail if you have any questions.
If you still have an art project that was drawn with marker on the inside and painted around the outside, you probably have what I'm looking for. This is probably the only project that we have done on cloth and younger students did cats and older students did a variety of animals. I would really appreciate it if you knew you had this item, that you would find it and let me borrow for teachers' conference. I'd like to know soon how many examples I will have available. Thanks for your help!
If you haven't turned in your field trip sheet, please do so by tomorrow. Check your information folder from orientation night as well. I'm still missing some photograph permission sheets. If you plan on ordering from Scholastic, please make sure to have your orders in by midnight tomorrow if you're ordering online otherwise paper order forms should come to school tomorrow.
*Is your child reading 30 minutes every night? Every Friday or last day of the school week your child will bring home their Friday folder. In this folder you will find notes and corrected homework. There is one other yellow sheet in this folder that should stay in the folder. This is your church attendance sheet that should be filled out weekly. If you need a new copy because yours was accidentally removed let me know. (The church attendance sheet is used for no other purpose than for your to reflect on your family worship practices and to decide whether or not improvements could be made.)
The "Cry of the Cardinal" is the weekly newsletter that will come home in Friday folders most weeks. You may have noticed that one did not come home last week. Look for one this Friday though. I will also post the same classroom information at this site. Mr. Hagenow plans on having this info available at the church/school website as well.
I hope that our classroom families were missed by the storm on Friday. What a blessing it was that we were not in school at that time! School had little damage. A tree split and had to be pruned. Some school volunteers stopped by and the problem was quickly remedied. Thank you to the St. John members and school families that helped clean up and cut branches.
